Control Trac® with eLSD (3.73 Electronic Limited-Slip Differential)

What starts out as a level patch of dirt can suddenly become a stretch of rutted mud. That's when the available Control Trac® with eLSD (3.73 electronic limited-slip differential), included in the available FX4 Off-Road Package, comes into play. When activated, it locks the rear axle completely to optimize traction at both wheels simultaneously, improving off-road performance when the situation requires it. Also available with all 2021 Expedition 4x4 models.

Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System™

Standard on Intelligent 4WD, Expedition has an easy-to-use Terrain Management System™ that lets customers select from seven special drive modes that help Expedition automatically adapt to different road conditions. The drive modes include Normal for around-town driving, Sport for more spirited trips, Tow/Haul for improved towing and hauling performance, Eco, Grass/Gravel/Snow for loose terrain, Sand for low-traction situations, and Mud/Ruts for uneven surfaces. Expedition drivers also can manually select either 2WD or 4WD modes in a given drive mode, depending on their preferences and the terrain.

Available Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control™

Hill start assist and Hill Descent Control* help keep your vehicle's power and capability under restrained control, particularly when you're towing. When you're stopped on an incline, standard hill start assist automatically works with the anti-lock brakes to hold the vehicle in place for up to two seconds while you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator. On 4WD models, you can activate standard Hill Descent Control™ so the braking system automatically engages as needed to help keep you in control while descending a steep grade.
